TAKE A NAP, GET SMART

Did you know, that? I nurse friend had already told me that it's healthy to take a nap during the day, but raeding the short article from Scientific American made things more believeble for me.

Read the text and take notes on what you consider important. Then, compare your notes to mine - how different / similar are our notes?

Here is what I considered worth highlighting - related to the topic. Also, the sentences I wrote on my lexical notebook; it's a lot easier to remember something in context than being part of a list, either you've got the translation or not.


Collocations:
* spoil nighttime sleep / take a nap: Even if I'm very tired, I don't take a nap during the day because I don't want to spoil nighttime sleep.
* sharpen the mind / daytime snooze: I'm not so sure it really sharpens the mind; I don't feel any difference when I have a daytime snooze.
* skip the nap: Sometimes I have to make my toddler skip his nap, otherwise he just won't fall asleep at bedtime.
* take a test: I don't think many people took a test ti find out if an afternoon snooze would really sharpen their minds.


Chunks of Language:
* get ____ hours of sleep: If I don't get at least 8 hours of sleep I spend the whole day in a bad mood.
* over a ____-day period: I tried sleeping fewer hours over a 5-day period, but it was a terrible experience.
* sleep-need for ____ hours: I have a sleep-need for 8 hours.
* for fear of ____ing: Sometimes I just cannot fall asleep for fear of not waking up on time the next morning.
* do good on a test: Doing good on a test is strictly related to having had a good night's sleep.
* squeeze in a siesta: Even if I wanted, I couldn't squeeze in a siesta - I barely have enough time to do everything I've got to do.
