KNOCKED UP!

Como já vimos antes, muitas vezes há mais de uma forma de falar a mesma coisa em inglês – assim como em português e outras línguas! O interessante é conhecer essas possibilidades e saber o melhor momento de usar cada uma das formas que conhecemos.

Para enriquecermos o nosso vocabulário, mais uma vez um movie poster vai nos ajudar! Para quem já viu esse filme fica fácil de lembrar do que acontece: ela fica grávida sem planejar, de um cara que ela nem gosta tanto assim... E é basicamente essa a idéia que knock up – get knocked up passa: a de engravidar (alguém) por acidente.

Hello there! It's almost Monday and I already feel anxious 'cause it's almost time to start it all over again! And worst of all, knowing that I'm effing tired and I ain't gonna have vacations... Well, it's for a good reason, so lemme try to see the silver lining.

As any mouse potato, here I am online trying to find something to cheer me up; have you got any ideas? What could make me happy, or at least less sad on a Sunday evening?

DAR UM BOLO EM ALGUÉM - COMO SERÁ EM INGLÊS?

Ontem foi Dia dos Namorados e muitos estão falando de relacionamentos, presentinhos e afins... Mas e quanto esses relacionamentos nem têm a chance de acontecer? Você já levou um bolo de alguém ou já deixou alguém te esperando sem receber a menor satisfação? Agora você já pode contar as suas histórias em inglês:

Blow somebody off / Blow off somebody / Stand someone up / Stand up someone: dar um bolo em alguém.

* He blew her off after discovering she was just interested in his money.

(Ele deu um bolo nela depois que descobriu que ela só estava a fim do seu dinheiro.)

* She only stood him up because she was grounded and couldn't let him know she wouldn't make it.

(Ela só deu o bolo nele porque estava de castigo e não conseguiu avisá-lo.)

Get/Be blown off / stood up:  levar um bolo de alguém.
* She doesn't know why she got blown off yesterday... She waited in front on the movie theatre for hours but he didn't show up.
(Ela não sabe porque levou um bolo ontem... Ela esperou na frente do cinema por horas mas ele não apareceu.)

* He felt devastated when he realized he had been stood up.
(Ele ficou arrasado quando percebeu que havia levado um bolo.)
